Dear Birders,
TOday I walked from the parking lot at the end of Arroyo Rd. in
Livermore to the top of the hill overlooking the Del Valle Reservoir.
Roughly halfway between I saw a CALLIOPE HUMMER perched in a Buckeye
that was next to a stand of Black Sage, just a few yards off the
trail.
According to BIRDS OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA Calliope Hummers are
uncommon migrants in the Bay Area and found only at this time of year.
Otherwise, bird activity was pretty good for an afternoon walk; among
the usual suspects I saw one GOLDEN EAGLE and a COOPER'S HAWK.
Good birding,
Emily Serkin
