[EBB Sightings] Western Tanager Moraga

Hello E.B. Birders,
 
This past Saturday morning (12 Mar 05) I took an enjoyable walk on the Lafayette-Moraga trail along the section of the trail between St. Mary's College and the Lafayette Community Park. I heard a WESTERN TANAGER calling continuously, but was unable to locate it in the dense bushes. Suddenly, a cattle drive with about 100 head of cattle, riders on horseback, and herding dogs came clamorously charging down the hill within 10 feet of the back of the bushes. The tanager flew to the opposite side of the trail and perched in an alert posture in a bare tree, actively watching as the cattle drive passed by. A most entertaining way to obtain a visual on an unexpected bird.
