Hi Birders,
Yesterday afternoon (3/12/05) was very birdy at Shadow Cliffs in Pleasanton.
I found 51 species in about 2.5 hours. Among the small number of continuing
wintering waterfowl on the main lake, I saw not one, but TWO Common Loons.
There has been one COLO there since around mid-December, and I was quite
surprised to see a second one today. The two birds were sticking quite close
together during my observations.
Not much in the way of spring arrivals yet, although four species of swallows
were present -- Tree, Violet-green, Barn, and N. Rough-winged. They were all
easy to observe close up, flying low over the east end of the levee trail
near the heronry.
Good birding,
Kathy Robertson
