This afternoon just after 2:30 I first heard, then saw, a Pileated from =
the West Ridge Trail in Redwood Park.
The bird was in the general vicinity of past sightings, that is about a =
three minute walk south along the West Ridge from its intersection with =
French Trail. Having no glasses with me, I could not sex the bird.
There are four or five large snags in the area, all of which show some =
signs of Pileated activity, and I've been hoping to catch the bird at =
its work. It obliged this afternoon by doing some drumming as well as =
calling persistently as long as I was there, a matter of two or three =
minutes.
When I returned about 30 minutes later, it was gone.
