There is a grassy lot on the north side of Central
Parkway in Dublin, just west of the park at Tassajara
Road. I've spent a couple late afternoons wandering
around there, and it's more interesting than I
thought. There is a WESTERN MEADOWLARK with a really
beautiful song, but I could not get close enough to
get a good picture. The RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS are
incredibly numerous (picture:

shy at all. And, for the second time in the past
couple weeks, I saw a solitary WHITE-TAILED KITE hunt
down and eat his prey (picture:

The lot isn't worth visiting if you already have
favorite spots nearby, but if you live near the
Waterford shops and want a nice place to walk on
weeknight evenings, you'll see some decent action
here.
Oh, and two weeks ago, I saw one of the BURROWING OWLS
at the Cesar Chavez park in Berkeley. He was hanging
out on the rocks in the extreme northeastern corner of
the park. He is incredibly habituated - he wasn't
afraid of kids, dogs, you name it. I hope it's not
due to being fed, but since he probably eats lizards,
I doubt it. Here are two pics of him.

Finally, the harriers at Coyote Hills are still
numerous. A stroll around the north marsh late
afternoon is bound to bring a couple low passes. For
some reason I only see females; I saw a male once but
he was very far away.
