Yesterday I was on a team that counted part of San Antonio Rd for the Mt. Hamilton CBC. For those interested in the less easily found local species, we had 10 LEWIS'S WOODPECKER along the stretch south of The Junction until the road turns west to go up Mt. Hamilton. We were also treated to over 40 LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCH. For those interested in tracking them down, they were hanging out near a salt lick, and several came down to the salt. This is near the N end of San Antonio Rd, just south of the 19 mile marker. Look for a bath tub on its side about 50-100 ft E of the road; the salt block is in front of the tub. This may be the most "stake-out-able" spot for them. In the same area was a pair of very dark MERLIN.
Good luck & Happy New Year!
