This morning at about 10 am, I saw a White-throated Sparrow
(tan morph) 0.3 mi S. of the entrance to the Veteran's Hospital,
on Arroyo Road S. of Livermore. From Hwy 580, take the
    N. Livermore exit S. to 1st St., go W. to S. L. St, then S. for
about 5 mi. (S L. changes its name to Arroyo Rd just S. of
    Collage Ave).

The sparrow was with a flock of Golden-crowned and
White-crowned Sparrows, feeding on what looked like
wheat, on top of a big pile of dirt dumped on the road
edge about 25 yds N. of a bridge with white concrete railings.

On the way there, check the pond on the Wente Golf Course,
just S. of Wetmore Ave., for Mallards, Wigeons, Gadwalls,
    Buffleheads, Ring-necked Ducks, and surprises.

The Veteran's Hospital grounds has the usual flocks of Wild
Turkeys, with many males displaying. The sewage settling
ponds on the Hospital grounds also had a few Mallards,
Gadwalls, Buffleheads, American Coots, but no Wood Ducks
    this morning.

    Good birding,
    Art Edwards
