I, too, am charmed by turkeys, but as you probably know, they have
become something of a pest in areas where their populations have
exploded, like up in Sonoma County; people have been getting flocks upon
their porches, where they congregate and have turkey parties. So, get
out and enjoy them now, before they become like the parkland Canada
geese, just more big, nuisance birds with really big poops.

They are becoming downright gregarious. Two turkeys (male and female)
stayed around Watershed Headquarters (not open to the public) about a
month ago for several weeks as the acorns dropped from a large valley
oak outside my office window. We watched them from a respectful distance
until we found they didn't care about us at all. We could walk across
the yard and they would scarcely notice, though they moved away from one
individual who approached them. When the acorns were done, so were they.

For those of you who get excited over turkeys. A flock of 50 (!!!) has
been feeding around and on a pyrocanthus bush across the street. They
fly from one side of the canyon to our ridge -- a wonderful sound. The
little neighbor boy has to wade through them on his way to school in the
    morning.
