In Moraga, Last Sunday December 5, a Townsend's Solitaire appeared to return
for another winter. Jan 2003 and in 1996-1997 we had a wintering
Solitaire. On Sunday it came to my back window and sat in the tree 10 feet
away from me. It was one of those unusual bird experiences that leaves one
wondering. He stood on the branch craning his neck and looking at me like a
Jay might do. It was as if he was saying: "I'm here, just wanted to let you
know." He left within about 2 minutes to places unknown. My records from
2003 show Jan 4 thru Feb. 17th and from 1996 show December 15 for at least
    30 days.

After the sighting I went to look at the status of Juniper berries. There
were lots of small berries in all the usual places. I waited to see the
Solitare before reporting it. Today I saw it while walking in my office
parking lot, which is just across the street. This location is inside the
Oakland count circle so I hope it stays visible for the CBC.

The location is around 336 Rheem and 332 Rheem where most of the Juniper
    berries are.

    Good Birding
