East Bay Birding Resources
Just FYI, there are some useful resources for finding birds in the
East Bay which are accessible through the Mount Diablo Audubon site.
Among them are Steve Glover's helpful Contra Costa County birding
guide, the CCC Breeding Bird Atlas in cool graphical form, and a
"places locator" for Alameda and CCC counties. The birding guide,
for example, mentions at least 4 places where Black Rails can be
heard in CCC.
These three resources (and others) are available from the homepage
under the 'local habitat' link:

The first two references that I mentioned are familiar to many of
you. The "places locator" is something brand new which was a project
originally begun by Larry Tunstall. In its present (and still
evolving form), I think its best use for birders is to locate places
using the curious names that birders ascribe to them. If you don't
know where "Frank's Dump" is located, for example, try that new tool.
