East Bay Birders,
Late this afternoon (4:45) I spotted a WANDERING TATTLER at the San =
Leandro
Marina. The bird was on the rocky shoreline adjacent to Par Course =
Station
#13 in Marina Park, foraging with a small group of Black Turnstones as =
the
tide was receding. What first drew me to a closer look at this bird was =
its
incessant tail bobbing (reminiscent of a Spotted Sandpiper). =
Interestingly,
I saw a W. Tattler at almost this exact location on 1/28 of this year.
Other interesting birds included 12+ Ruddy Turnstones (first I've seen =
this
year) and several Sanderlings on the breakwater and foraging closer =
inshore
as the tide went out. Last weekend (Sun, 10/24), there were 20+ =
Surfbirds
and around half a dozen Elegant Terns on the breakwater at high tide --
didn't see either of these species today.
