I live in Danville, near the So. entrance to Mt. Diablo. I rarely get Pine
Siskins at my feeders; occasionally one or two with years when I see none.
At the same time, I sometimes have Varied Thrushes but not usually, and when I
do get them it is much later in the year. I have been gone for the month of
Oct. and am not aware of either bird yet, but a neighbor brought me the
bodies of two birds that hit her window, one today and one Fri. She had never
seen the bird before and they turned out to be two young male Varied Thrushes.
I am wondering if with these two eruptive species both being in the area if
there is something about the food supply or the weather that might be causing
this. Has anyone else seen Varied Thrushes around an unusual area yet?
