We were there between 17:00 and 18:30 hours. A low tide of two feet at =
18:13 with sunset at 19:19.
I saw four. Three pointed out by a gentleman we ran into there who =
knows what he is doing and one pointed out by my wife who seems a =
quicker study than I. The wife and I split up for a bit and she claims =
to have seen a fifth one. I suspect one of the four doubled back from a =
different direction but maybe that's just my envy showing.
I don't know much about birds but their behavior was different than the =
other waders. They worked alone, not together. They spent very little =
time poking about the mud at their feet and the vast majority of the =
time poking upward at the exposed muddy bank. This left them shaded and =
partially concealed by overhanging vegetation most of the time. As the =
sun got very low one briefly came out, poked about the mud and then =
returned to the bank where if you looked away it took awhile to =
reacquire it.
