Coyote Hills Bird Watchers,
Dave Reinsche, park naturalist, led the East Bay Regional Parks' Thursday morning bird walk at Coyote Hills Regional Park. Best bird was a white-faced ibis spotted by Sheila Junge, Ohlone Audubon, in the marsh across the road form the visitor center. She also found a white-throated sparrow at Hoot Hollow. Dave spotted a winter wren at Hoot Hollow and a rock wren at Castle Rock. We were also delighted to see golden-crowned kinglet and American Pipit.
The complete list follows.

Ore and I joined Dr Quack's East Bay Regional Park District walk at Coyote Hills Regional Park this morning. We began shortly after dawn, and got off to a good start as a White-faced Ibis flew past during our friend the Doctor's opening remarks. It was a beautiful morning, and the birds were present in good numbers and variety. After an hour and 15 minutes, we had progressed only about a hundred yards from our starting point in the Visitor Center parking lot. We did make it up to the hilltop overlooking South Marsh by the end of the walk at 9 am. Here's my list:
Pied-billed Grebe, Double-crested Cormorant, Great Blue Heron, White-faced Ibis, Canada Goose, Green-winged Teal, Mallard, Northern Pintail, Cinnamon Teal, Northern Shoveler, American Wigeon, Canvasback, Bufflehead, Ruddy Duck, White-tailed Kite, Northern Harrier, Cooper's Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk, Ring-necked Pheasant,California Quail, American Coot, unidentified gulls, Anna's Hummingbird, Northern Flicker (several red-shafted near Hoot Hollow), Black Phoebe, Western Scrub-Jay, Common Raven, Rock Wren, Bewick's Wren, Winter Wren, Marsh Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, American Robin, California Thrasher (heard), European Starling, California Towhee, Fox Sparrow, Golden-crowned Sparrow
After the walk, a few of us walked down to South Marsh, out a short way onto the salt flats on No Name Trail, and then back to the Visitor Center. The highlight was a White-throated Sparrow on the trailside between the Center and Hoot Hollow. We added the following to the day's list:
American White Pelican, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Gadwall, Turkey Vulture, American Kestrel, Black-necked Stilt, Greater Yellowlegs, Willet, Western Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, Mourning Dove, Say's Phoebe, Northern Mockingbird, American Pipit, Yellow-rumped Warbler (Audubon's and Myrtle), Song Sparrow (heard), White-crowned Sparrow, [White-throated Sparrow,] Western Meadowlark, House Finch
A great morning. Thanks to Dr Quack, Bill Scoggins, and all the others for fine company and useful instruction.
Good birding, Larry

The Tropical Kingbird was seen again this morning at "Hidden Lakes" in Martinez in the same area as previously reported. It was first seen at 8:50 AM and we watched it until after 10:00 AM.
