While hiking yesterday evening at Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve in the hills above Oakland, I saw two Golden Eagles perched in dead snags in the burned over forest section on the south side of the hill below the transmitter towers. As I saw one eagle land in those towers about a month ago, it seems like a very close-in spot to see eagles.
Also there were:
2 Lazuli Buntings - at least
Western Bluebird
American Kestrel
(2)Golden Eagles
Wrentit
Spotted Towhee
Chestnut-backed Chickadee
Mourning Dove
Hairy Woodpecker
Northern Flicker
American Robin
hummingbird (sp.)
goldfinch ?
Also, a very nice 2-foot Gopher Snake.

This morning twelve people joined me for an Audubon trip up the trail at the Leona Heights Regional Open Space off of Keller Dr in Oakland. Lovely day and lots of birdsong. Wilson's Warblers, Warbling Vireo, Hutton's Vireo and Black-headed Grosbeak seemed especially vocal this morning.

We hiked the main road [Stage Coach Trail] about 2.5 miles up Pine Creek to the pond [through Diablo Foothills Regional Park into Mount Diablo State Park]. We encountered 65 species and found 3 nests. Many species were out feeding fledglings. The abundances listed below are all estimated.
