Yesterday (3/16) morning my class birded the San Lorenzo shoreline from the
end of Grant to the northern part of the Ora Loma Marsh. For the first time
we had an Amer. Bl. Oystercatcher there. It was on the pier for a while.
Then it flew to a small islet nearby. A Ruddy Turnstone was on the pier.
There were 2 Ospreys, 1 near the mouth of San Lorenzo Creek which was
feasting on a huge fish. The other was on a pole near the pier, a common perch.
The only other hawks we saw were a kite and an unknown falcon. There were
2 Common Mergansers in San Lorenzo Creek channel. A Lincoln's Sparrow was
between that channel and the electrical substation. Mew Gulls were in the
pond just south of that channel. A Clark's Grebe was in Bockman Channel.
Many Turkey Vultures were feasting on a fresh deer carcass that was on the
    shore, near the pier.

You never know what you'll find when you go birding.
