On Sunday, 3/7, we tallied 55 species while visiting eastern Contra  
Costa County.  Locations included:  Knightsen area, Holland Tract,  
Orwood Tract and Marsh Creek Reservoir.

Highlights included:

Greater White-fronted Goose
Green Heron
Ferruginous Hawk
Merlin
Virginia Rail
Sora
Sandhill Crane
Greater Yellowlegs
Long-billed Curlew
Burrowing Owl
Loggerhead Shrike
Yellow-billed Magpie
Tree Swallow
Northern Rough-winged Swallow
Cliff Swallow

Of special note:  Cliff Swallows were actively nest-building/ 
repairing at Becky's Bridge/Rock Slough.  According to the Breeding  
Bird Atlas of Contra Costa County, this appears to be an early date  
for their nesting activity.
