On the Golden Gate Audubon walk this morning we sighted a female Common Merganser on a mud spit (low tide) at Meeker Slough, East Bay Shoreline furiously preening herself. Couldn't detect brownish oil but one person thought she saw a sheen. Rusty Scauf the trip leader noted that's it's unusual to see a Merganser out of water and a Common Merganser out of fresh water.

The location was between the 51st St Richmond entrance to the Bay Trail and the 1st bridge walking north. Near a broken down bridge or pier.

I searched the best I could for the name/e-mail of the Wild Care person on this list but couldn't find her.
