This Red-shouldered Hawk appears resident at Oyster Bay Regional Park in San Leandro. It seems to have been leading an independent life there for about three years. It's often visible resting in one or the other (currently) bare trees in the picnic area (which is the first right off the paved path leading from the street parking).

With a quiet approach, when it's resting one can get a very good view of it from within 20-30 feet.

This shot was taken while it flew around the picnic area.

The picnic area these days also hosts several White-tailed Kites currently calling and doing flight displays.

It's comfortable birding to sit at one of the picnic tables and wait for the birds to come in.
