    That's what I'd guess, too. One thing to listen for if the bird returns: 
    A Nuttall's will often trill - rather like a soft police whistle, if you 
    can imagine such a thing - just before it flies. I've never heard a 
    Ladder-backed Woodpecker, but the description looks different in 
    Sibley's....
