Hi. Running at Lake Merritt today produced all of the usual good birds: The
tan-striped (?-very pale) White-throated Sparrow was at its usual spot, in
the bushes along the fence on the western side of Fairyland. I first saw it
in the bushes on its own; upon seeing me it hopped back to the company of a
Golden-crowned on the ground, giving very good views. It then briefly
returned to the bushes, then left and began working the trees and ground of
interior Fairyland with Golden-crowned Sparrows, warblers, and Bushtits.

Near the islands was a Cackling Goose with Canadas, and with the large mixed
bread-scrounging flock were the male Tufted Duck and female Redhead. A
beautiful male Barrow's Goldeneye was across from the islands, and the
entire lake showed a very good diversity of gulls: Mew, Ring-billed
(including a partial albino), Glaucous-winged, Western (great views of all
ages), G-winged/Western hybrids, and probably California although I never
actually ID'ed one. Also, all of the commoners such as Canvasback, scaup,
Common Goldeneye, all three small grebes, and the hybrid Canada/Chinese
    Goose.
