[EBB Sightings] Berkeley Aquatic Park

There seem to be contradictory reports on whether the fence will be an improvement or not.

A gentleman I talked to (I believe he was from Golden Gate Audubon, but I did not catch his name) was definitely anti-fence.? He claimed the fence would keep him and other volunteers from cutting back the ivy and other non-native plants, and that the ivy?would quickly overrun the place.? He did not believe the City of Berkeley has the resources to mainain this area.? There are definitely a LOT of birds there now--presumably there will be less if the ivy takes over.

He also feared that the fence would encourage more illegal activity (not less), since there would less danger of interruption from people passing by.

I guess time will tell....
