This morning from 6:55-8:05 Richard Cimino and I went to Coyote Hills hoping to find the Black Rail reported by Ken Schneider yesterday. From the asphalt road at the channel that is approximately .3 miles past the kiosk we heard 2 faint Black Rail calls from the marshy area on the north side of the road. We walked 10-15 feet into the marsh to get a better look(hopefully) and heard the Black Rail call very distinctly 3 more times. We did not see the bird, only heard it call. In the marshy area to the south of the road we heard the calls of Sora several times. We did not see or hear Virginia Rail.

Other birds of interest seen this morning were a Hermit Thrush, a hunting Sharp-shinned Hawk, 3 Northern Harriers, 2 Ring-necked Pheasants, several Marsh Wrens and 2 Cackling Goose(minima).
