    Hi birders,

I found a male Western Tanager at the Vallejo Adobe Nursery in Niles
today. He was starting to show a bit of orange coloration on his head. I
assume this an over-wintering bird -- sure wish we could have found it on our
    CBC last month!

Although the nursery appears to have gone out of business, the gates are
still open (daily?) because the grounds are a historic park open to the
public. Just inside the gate, park in front of the closed nursery building.
Walk west a very short distance and turn left (south) at the first road. At
the end of that road is a chain-link gate. I saw the bird in the huge
live oak (and other nearby trees) just behind the gate/fence.

Other birds of interest included Townsend's Warbler, Purple Finch,
    White-breasted and Red-breasted Nuthatch. I saw a Hutton's Vireo in the same
binocular view at a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, a great chance to compare these
look-alike birds. The place was swarming with Am. Robins and Cedar Waxwings
taking advantage of all the fruiting trees. Last weekend I saw an
Orange-crowned Warbler, but I couldn't find it today.

    Good birding,
