Today between 230 and 300 I drove through the rural area in North Livermore that includes the open fields off North Livermore Av, May School Rd, Dignino Rd, and Hartford Av. North Livermore Av (western side of area) was fairly clear while the rest of the area was under varying degrees of moderate fog. I saw two American Krestels and a Red-tailed in the clear area. While in the fog I saw several more Krestels and at least 4 more Red-tailed on telephone poles or in trees. I saw at three other hawks with wings flapping flying low looking for food. I was surprised by the density of hawks in the fog. I even thought I saw a Ferruginous Hawk (light morph) as I drove by but couldn't stop with a truck behind me. By the time I u-turned for another look the hawk had departed. So I can't confirm that sighting.
