This morning, as I walked by my favorite pond at the Equestrian Center off 
Arbolado Drive in Walnut Creek (adjacent to the Rancho Paraiso development), 
I observed a male Belted Kingfisher diving repeatedly in the pond, as well 
as the continuing pair of Hooded Mergansers.
