Between 1:00 and 3:00 this afternoon at Quarry Lakes?Regional Park in Fremont:

    - An OSPREY flew north over Horseshoe Lake, ducking low to check out the big binocular eyes looking at him, then came back around and careened headlong into the water to catch a fish.? He came up shaking his head and paused once or twice to shake his head again - quite an endeavor while flying with a good-size?fish held face-front (of course) in one's talons and while avoiding thieving gulls.? He continued north beyond Rainbow Lake with his fish, and I lost sight of him.

    - Ten RING-NECKED DUCKS were on Willow Slough with 17 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS perched on snags here and there along the western shoreline.

    - Five AMERICAN PIPITS?were at Encinal picnic area.? I saw 20 pipits?here on 11/7/09.

    - A COMMON GOLDENEYE and 3 male COMMON MERGANSERS were on Horseshoe Lake along with a small group of HORNED GREBES?and about twice as many EARED GREBES.
