Saturday afternoon around 1:15, the Palm Warbler was in the same spot
previously reported, foraging on the ground, bobbing its tail, with a
Yellow-rumped Warbler. I was able to get quite close for a good look. This was my
first time spotting a Palm Warbler in CA, after seeing so many in Georgia
this past fall. The location was at the western edge of the new Hollis-Doyle
Park along Hollis Ave., in among the new bushes between 61st & 62nd St.
Yesterday and today at Berkeley Aquatic Park ----several pairs of Gadwalls
and at least 6 Black Crowned Night Herons in the trees at the Southern most
pond. The area was very birdy with Bushtits, Goldfinch, a
Robin, a Ruby-crowned Kinglet and several Yellow-rumped Warblers. I hope
this habitat does not get destroyed with Berkeley's plan for getting rid of
the "dens" in the mature habitat
described in the Gull. Remember Berkeley's fiasco with their unauthorized
dredging of the large lagoon creating the huge pile of contaminated sludge
which is still along side the lagoon in birding habitat.
Also, in the large lagoon were two pairs of Red-breasted Mergansers
swimming across the middle toward the West where there were large groups of
Black-necked stilts and Avocets roosting (near the pile of sludge). Lots of
    other ducks ,also.
    Good Birding, Ed Tanovitz, Emeryville
