Yesterday on my long (calorie-burning) bike ride around Mt Diablo I spotted
a pair of Hooded Mergansers in the pond at the Equestrian Center off
Arbolado Drive (adjacent to the Rancho Paraiso development). And towards the
end of the ride, I observed a moderate sized covey of California Quail
foraging around the southern entrance to Mt Diablo. (I have not seen quail
in awhile. Also last week I saw a flock of turkeys on Northgate Rd, Walnut
    Creek.)
