    Hi, all.
I can't remember if anyone reported a Pileated Woodpecker on Sunday. If not, we spotted a probable PI WO nest hole on Pine Top on the Mills College campus. It was a large rectangle in a tree (evergreen? I'm not sure) with other woodpecker holes directly behind (toward I-690) the fireplace and facing the fireplace. While we watched, a chestnut-backed chickadee flew in and perched for a while in the opening. We saw and heard nothing of a PI WO (though the freeway noise was loud enough to obscure any distant calls that might have been out there) on Sunday and I don't know if this would be worth staking out, but if we still need one for count week.
And I have an explanation (? ;-) ) for the lack of golden eagle reports. Friday's East Ala Co count had, I believe, 17; maybe they all flew south for the weekend.
Happy, blessed Christmas, Kwanzaa, and such.
