    This afternoon a female Merlin flew in and perched on the neighbor's
    redwood for nearly 10 minutes. It looked to me to be a columbarius: not as
    dark as suckleyi, with a faint moustache and a quite prominent pale
    superciliary stripe.  I got some decent pictures - not Verne Nelson
    quality, but not too bad for me.  I was able to go in to get my telephoto
    lens, but she left when I was getting my scope.
