This morning my wife Adele and I birded Jack London Road in Livermore, where the best birds were 9 Buffleheads in the southernmost settling pond of the Water Treatment Plant, and a Cooper's Hawk. Continuing on to El Charro Road, we found at least 4 Cackling Geese among the many Canada Geese about 1/4 mile south of Hwy 580, in the field west of El Charro Rd, at 9:30 a.m. (PST). The Geese usually leave these fields in mid-morning, apparently heading for gravel pits and lakes. Next on our route was Shadow Cliffs Regional Park, where we watched an Osprey circling overhead.
