    On the nearest island, beside the right-hand clump of pampas grass of 
    all places. I watched for about five minutes before it flew around the 
    island and out of sight.
    
    Also a Great Blue Heron in one of the cormorants' trees, some Western 
    Grebes along with the other grebely arrivals, and the usual mob of 
    Scaup, Ruddy Ducks, and Coots. And a male Kingfisher, too. Couldn't find 
    the Canvasback someone reported, but have no doubt they're coming in.
    
    The White Pelicans are still hanging out in the bird paddock, and for 
    the first time I saw the Egyptian Goose with his wing-and-a-half 
    extended - brilliant white coverts and black-cock-metallic-green 
    primaries and secondaries - instead of hidden under the brown mantle 
    feathers the way they usually are.
