I was also able to view the Golden Eagle at CY this morning, both in
flight and being harassed by the local Red-tail. I left and then returned to
the park later, around 3 pm, and birded around the Quarry parking lot, where
I had repeated looks at a MERLIN ("Taiga" subspecies) terrorizing the
passerines in the area. I had seen a Merlin flying over Patterson Ranch Rd.
(the road into CY) a couple of weeks ago, so I'm wondering if this is the same
bird, settling in to winter there for the season.

    Good birding,

Today Robbie Fischer and I visited Coyote Hills. Highlights were a male
BLUE-WINGED TEAL with Cinnamon Teal at the North Marsh north of the
D.U.S.T. trail. An adult GOLDEN EAGLE landed on a snag above the Quarry
Staging Area. Several BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS and two ROCK WRENS were at
the south end of the Quarry Staging Area.
