[EBB Sightings] Great Egret catching a Smelt- pic

The annual smelt run is on and humans, Great Egrets, Brown Pelicans, and Cormorants are enjoying the plentiful supply. I watched this relatively small Great Egret catch and consume three of them.

Smelt, there are at three kinds that come into the Bay and Delta, live a year at sea and then return to fresh water to spawn and die.  They are prized by fisherman (ans birds) and taste like salmon.
