[EBB Sightings] Common Poorwill

I had one of those duh! moments this week when I realized that those birds  that are sitting on the fireroad in the dark  until I scare them up- in Strawberry Cyn,  UC Berkeley- must be Common Poorwills. This morning pre-dawn I stopped to observe one.  It settled back down onto the trail and flew up twice to hawk an insect. Although I still didn't  have great looks of this darkish bird, it's behavior points to poorwill. Yesterday and today I heard a soft chuck similar to a Hermit Thrush when it flew up. Neither of these birds chuck notes are on my Maccauley  Calif. bird CDs. It would of been fun to comapre.
