    Greetings,

This is a birding event post and contains no sightings.

Daniel Edelstein is teaching "Fundamentals of Ornithology/Birding in the Bay
Area? at Merritt College starting 11/5. Daniel is a fun and knowledgeable instructor. He has more than 25 years birding and
teaching experience. I took his Songbird Ecology and Bay Area Shorebirds
classes last year at Merritt and highly recommend his classes. It is very
affordable and cheaper than most Adult Ed classes at $26 per credit (and you can take just one credit). Plus it
includes 4 all-day bird walks! You can find out more about him at his web site www.warblerwatch.com.

Fundamentals of Ornithology/Birding in the Bay Area (BIOL
    80C/ENVST80C):
    Introduction to the
anatomy, behavior, and ecology of birds, with emphasis on bird plumages, reproduction, songs/calls, and
migration. Four all-day field trips & three classroom lectures/slide shows,
    along with well-known guest speakers.

The class is scheduled to meet in the classroom11/5, 11/12, and 11/19/09 from 7-9:50 PM. There are
    field trips on11/21, 11/22, 12/5, and 12/12/09 from
    9 AM ? 4:50 PM

To register, go to www.merritt.edu or www.peralta.edu . Look in the Fall 09 class
schedule. The class appears as both a biology (BIOL 80C) and
environmental studies class (ENVST80C). Students may take the class as
pass/fail or for credit (variable from .5 to 2.5 credits, depending on a
    student's preference).

New students will need to apply to the college, which sounds
daunting, but is really a matter of filling out a form online. You will get an
email admitting you to the college, then you simply log on to the web site and
?Add a Class? to your schedule. Or call the admissions office at 510-466-7368.

    Cheers,
