    Good Morning Birders:

'What a difference a day makes.' This morning the pearl gray fog drifts through the trees on my high Berkeley hillside bringing welcome cooling and moisture -- and the first Cedar Waxwings of the season. They will be here in varying numbers from now until late spring when they will briefly relinquish group life to breed. Their presence has inspired some brief robin song.

A postscript on the Western Tanager. In Mexico and Central America where tanagers spend the winter they frequent the forest trees that shade coffee plantations -- another reason to choose 'shade-grown' coffee.
