Over the last three days several birders have seen the beginning of
migration in Heather Farm Park in Walnut Creek. Yellow and Wilson's
Warblers, Common Yellowthroat, a Black-throated Gray Warbler, young Lark
Sparrows, 4 Black-necked Stilts and a Willow Flycatcher have all been
observed. Denise Wight, Fred Safier and a couple of others saw these birds.
I finally found one Yellow Warbler this morning on the east side of the
mostly natural pond, and I followed this bird's chip up and down for about
10 minutes before it finally afforded me a glimpse.

I did notice this AM that at least 6 Killdeer were on the grass at the north
ball fields. Over the last several years, they have shown a tendency to
slowly increase in numbers as the year passes. At times I have seen as many
as 30 later in fall, sometimes in the morning, sometimes in late afternoon.

In addition, there were 10-15 Barn Swallows at the same ball fields sitting
on the dirt of the infield closest to the parking lot. I know one of the
baseball teams in Japan is called the Swallows, but somehow it seems these
guys were not interested in fielding any grounders or trying to turn a
    double play.
