My 5 year old son (the avid birder) started jumping up and down at the
back window yesterday and exclaimed, "There's an oriole in our yard!
There's an oriole!" I quickly came running, and sure enough, there
was an oriole laying claim to our back yard. The towhee's seemed to
be a bit ruffled by his presence. The oriole checked out the feeder,
then hopped around the trees for a while. After it left, my son
grabbed his Sibley guide and identified it as a male Hooded Oriole (I
agreed). It's the first time we've seen one in our yard (we are in
    Central Berkeley).

I'm not sure if this sighting is news for the list, but it sure was news for us!

    Cheers,
    Willow
