This morning we made a trip to Contra Loma Regional Park to check on
the Burrowing Owlets and the young Cooper's Hawks that we reported on
June 14 and15. We were able to account for five of the owlets and
both adults. The owlets are much more active, frequently exercising
their wings, and should be fledging soon. At the Cooper's Hawk nest,
we observed three young, two of which were standing tall in the
nest. They have really grown and are acquiring their juvenile
plumage, looking much different than the whitish chicks we saw only
nine days ago. The female was nearby, but we did not see the male.

In addition, after doing business at the Orchard Supply Hardware
store on Lone Tree Way in Antioch earlier this morning, I checked out
the vacant lot that is located between OSH and Walmart. I counted a
pair of Burrowing Owls and at a nearby burrow another single adult
    with three owlets.

    Good Birding,
    Paul and Nancy Schorr, Antioch
