[EBB Sightings] Fire Department to the rescue in Walnut Creek

A neighbor of ours walked to the grocery store across Bancroft with her son 
today.  She said that near the stoplight and still on the residential side 
of the street, a boy was looking at something inside the storm drain. 
Nearby was a distressed female Mallard.  Seems the ducklings fell through 
the grating.

As Arlline and Tom crossed towards Safeway, they saw a fire truck in the 
parking lot.  They told the firemen of the problem.  As Arline and Tom 
returned, they noticed the fire truck was parked near the grating, which had 
been removed.  One of the firemen was inside handing up ducklings, sometimes 
one, sometimes two, until they were all out.

Knowing the tough times these ducklings have making it to adulthood, it is a 
happy ending for now.
