This morning I went to Arrowhead Marsh and walked around the restored
marsh area that is just south of Arrowhead Marsh itself. There were
very few birds generally, with the notable exception of a Common Murre
that was swimming south in the canal east of the restored marsh.

I wondered if the bird might not have been feeling well, as it swam at
an unhurried uniform pace without ever either diving or looking around
during the entire 10 minute period when I was watching it. It didn't
seem nearly as alert as birds generally do. I was pretty surprised to
see it there - and it was certainly the bird of the day - so I walked
along the path by the canal following it, and it never seemed to
notice me although I was only about 25 feet from it.
