Saturday morning Jim Chiropolos and I biked Mines Road out a couple miles past the Junction down San Antonio Valley Road and back .? We hit some early highlights at the 4.2 mile marker with flyovers of a single Phainopep la flyover and ?Yellow-billed Magpies ?harrassing a Golden Eagle. At the 14.2 mile mark we caught quick glimpses of two Lawrence's Goldfinches and a Green Heron.?? And in the stretch past the J unction we were unable to find any Lewis' Woodpeckers but found?roughly 100 Tricolored Blackbirds and three Wood Ducks.???

Other highlights of the 61 species seen:

    Coopers Hawk

Red-tailed Hawk nest at the Pumpkin Patch with the two adults (one very dark) feeding visible white down covered chicks

    Hairy Woodpecker

    Says Phoebe

    Cassin's Kingbird

    Western Kingbird

    Western Bluebird (many)

    Cedar Waxwings

    Western Tanager (6)

Ash Throated Flycatchers (very many, spaced throughout the route)

Very quiet for us regarding warblers and sparrows. It definitely is easier to bird by bike earlier in the day before the winds?create?bike-helmet amplified levels.? Nonetheless, a road to bike this time of year.
