When I returned from the Mt. Diablo Audubon field trip to East Contra Costa
County, Rosita told me that she had some sad news. The Chickadees have left
and our patio is very quiet now. They were feeding their chicks for just
about three weeks, right on schedule.

I did see one come in later, grab a peanut chip from the seed feeder, take
it to a branch in the nest tree and slowly chip it down to edible size. It
took a drink from the ant trap over the hummingbird feeder and left.

It is exciting to know that we have now had a Chestnut-backed Chickadee
family in our patio for two years in a row. They work hard. We enjoy and
appreciate watching the natural world so close to home.
