Today, Memorial Day, I hiked in Briones Regional Park from the parking lot at the end of Briones Road to the Marichich Lagoons and then the Sindicich Lagoons during the heat of the afternoon.

Within about the first 100 yards of the start of Old Briones Road trail, I found, among others, ACORN & NUTTAL'S WOODPECKER, HOUSE WREN, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, BUSHTIT, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS (including one that I tried to make into a Yellow Warbler) and DARK-EYED JUNCO.

In the trees along Briones Crest Trail before reaching the Sindicich Lagoons, I found one TOWNSEND'S WARBLER. In this same general locale, I also had several LARK SPARROWS.

In the grassy area between the two Sindicich Lagoons, I found a WHITE-TAILED KITE, several HORNED LARKS and two GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS.

I did not, however, find my primary target for the walk, Lazuli Bunting, which I found on several walks here last year.

    Good Birding,
    Jeff Acuff
