With regard to Hermit Warblers in Tilden, I've been running my summer camp
there since '97. We usually start in mid-June, and I don't recall ever
finding Hermits until July. We've never heard one singing, and have never
found a fledgling, though first year/female type birds are what we generally
find until the occasional obvious adult in August. I've always assumed that
they were early dispersals from somewhere northward, as the closest I've
found signs of breeding is in Mendocino County. I'll be reviewing my old
written records for the Tilden checklist project soon, and if they prove my
    memory wrong, I'll write back.
