Seen at the shoreline the last few days -

Horned Grebe - 5 at the San Leandro Marina is the fifth April record I have for this area. The last one was 4-19-98.

Surfbird - 62 at the San Leandro Marina. They were on a small island just south of the entrance to the marina.

Caspian Tern - 410 to 420 seen on 4-13 at the mouth of San Lorenzo Creek. I have never seen this many here before. 235 on 4-15-08 was the most seen before today. They were seen at around 3:30 PM but most were not seen 2 - 3 hours before that.

Northern Flicker - 1 on 4-13 at Winton Ave. is only the fourth record I have for April.

Ash-throated Flycatcher - 1 on 4-13 at the base of Mt. Trashmore on the west side. This is the earliest spring migrant I have for the shoreline. However, Peter saw 1 in the trees across Winton Ave. from the Park Office. Previously, the earliest spring migrant was 4-14-84.

Western Kingbird - 1 on 4-12 seen in the city ponds from the west end of Depot Road. I only have 4 earlier spring records at the Hayward Shoreline.

Varied Thrush - 1 on 4-13 at Winton Ave. This is the latest spring record for the shoreline. Previously the latest was 4-22-88.

Townsends Warbler - 1 on 4-12 at Winton Ave.

    Bullock's Oriole - 1 on 4-12 at Winton Ave.

Hooded Oriole - 1 on 4-12 was in some trees near Frank's Dump East.

    Good Birding
