Highlights of this morning spent wandering the Mitchell Canyon, Black
Point, Globe Lily, and White Canyon trails in Mt. Diablo State Park:

Hammond's Flycatcher - 1 probable on White Canyon Trail. The bird was
silent and I never got a look at the breast, but the grayish color,
fairly long primaries, wide but not teardrop-shaped eyering, short dark
bill, and lack of tail pumping made me think Hammond's.
Ash-throated Flycatcher - 1 Black Point Trail above Globe Lily Trail
Blue-gray Gnatcatchers - 2 Black Point Trail above Globe Lily Trail and
    2 Salvia Road.
Cassin's Vireo - 3-4 White Canyon and Mitchell Canyon
    Hutton's Vireo - several
    Orange-crowned Warbler - many
    Yellow-rumped Warbler - a few
    Black-throated Gray Warbler - 1 White Canyon
    Townsend's Warbler - 1 White Canyon
    Wilson's Warbler - several
    Bullock's Oriole - 2 White Canyon

Yesterday morning in Sibley Volcanic Regional Park:

Rufous-crowned Sparrow - 2 along main ridge above Quarry Trail
    Lark Sparrow - 3 ditto
Hairy Woodpecker - 2 copulating Loop Trail
Golden Eagle - 2 flying around, crashing through vegetation, and
perching close to the ground in the dense eucalyptus on the Loop Trail,
acting like jumbo-sized accipiters. They were screened when perched and
I couldn't tell what they doing. I've never seen Golden Eagles below
    the forest canopy before.

And some late reports from last weekend:

Black-headed Grosbeak - Bird Trail, Chabot RP, 4/4
Pygmy Nuthatch - 2 building nest in snag along entrance road to Chabot
Space and Science Center, which is on Skyline Blvd sandwiched between
Redwood RP and Joaquin Miller Park, Oakland, 4/5
Winter Wren - belting it out on the Cinderella Trail, Joaquin Miller
    Park , 4/5

    Good birding,
