This afternoon around 3:00 a brightly colored male western tanager was in a tree on the narrow road/trail south of the trash can receptacle at Hoot Hollow at Coyote Hills RP. A house wren was on a snag nearby. The bushes held several golden-crowned sparrows in breeding plumage.

The adult male Bullock's oriole was in the butterfly garden, and the first spring male Bullock's oriole was making a racket in a tree on the Quail Trail below Hoot Hollow.

The male ring-necked pheasant was out in the open and calling from his usual spot in the field south of the entry kiosk.

The barn swallows now have three good nests under the eaves of the visitor center, and a pair of mourning doves is nesting on a pillar nearby. One great horned owlet was visible with its parent on the nest in Hoot Hollow.
